|
I have chosen the mural called A City in Transit by Hector Duarte and Mariah de Forest which is located in the down town of Naperville by the streets of Chicago Avenue and Washington Street. The artist that created this mural are Hector Duarte with the help of artist Mariah de Forest, in 1997-1998, and it is about 35 feet by 55 feet. “Hector Duarte Born in Caurio, Michoacán, Mexico, 1952. Studied mural painting at David Alfaro Siqueiros’s workshop, Cuernavaca. Moved to the U.S. in 1985. Has worked on more than 50 murals in the Chicago area and has exhibited his studio art widely in the Midwest and Mexico”(https://iuplr.uic.edu/docs/default-source/latinoartistsbio/hector-duarte-cv.pdf?sfvrsn).
One of the reason it was created was for the Naperville City walk which is a walk of many murals, murals, statues, mosaics, and many other types of public art. Also, to show how over the years that Naperville has evolved over time, especially the transportation in the mural. Which is, what the mural mainly focuses on as to show how much transportation has evolved over time. Also, that the transportation helped shape the city of Naperville, and how it’s transportation evolved over time in order to help the City of Naperville, also keep evolving and keep up with the times Second main big reason this mural was created was to show the different types of landmarks and roads that help shape the transportation and make what Naperville is today. For Example, there is in the mural is the transportation as in the: the Denver Zephyr traveling by train, there is the water for traveling by boats, automobiles for traveling by bridges and roads, and the Lima Lima airplanes for traveling by air and rich history if armed forces. Also, to show major roads or bridges that helped make wok the travel mentioned above in Naperville like: Roads known as Old Plank Road now known as Ogden Avenue a major street people use to get in and out of Naperville, Washington Street Bridge and Main Street Bridge some of the most important bridges used to go from and to Naperville. Also, to show more about transportation in Naperville and how it evolved over time is the auto garages, the taxis, the Prince Castles Drive-in, the major river of DuPage River, and especially how much the railroad has change over tome too. The main meaning of this mural was to show how much transportation has evolved over time in Naperville and how much it has shaped the city of Naperville. Also, to show how that transportation has played a major role in order to create the city of Naperville what it is today. Also, to show how much transportation is part of the deep rich history of Naperville, ever since it was created as city. Also, to the generations of those families that have been there since their ancestor settled there in Naperville. Understand how much transportation had in creating and evolving their city of Naperville to the city it is today. Why I picked the mural of called A City in Transit by Hector Duarte and Mariah de Forest was that I represented what Made the city Naperville what it is today. I also, picked the mural, because what stood out to me was the way that it was painted as the colors did not clash together. That is because, when you look at one spot it would blend to together, with the next spot the on the mural, and flow as one giant piece of artwork. But, in reality it actually was serval pieces painted at a time, where one spot was created, then the next spot, so in order to get the real vision of what the artist was trying to show. He did this because by creating it separate rather than make it all one giant mural painting and it stands out more than it would have if it was, just painted as one giant artwork or mural. Then, the colors would just clash together, and not stand out as they do now, and would then not get the full picture, of what the artist was trying to show people through this mural. Lastly, I like to say that I enjoyed learning about and researching about the city of Naperville and the meaning behind this mural that I went to visit. Also, that it helps to show the history of the town through the expression and visions through the art that is created on the buildings in Naperville. Also, when you walk the streets of Naperville looking at all the murals, statues, mosaics, and many other types of public art of Naperville City Walk. It is, as if it is telling a story of the history of the city of Naperville through the murals, statues, mosaics, and many other types of public art of Naperville City Walk. Finally, I believe that this is one of the more important Murals in Naperville as it shows the history of the city of Naperville and how it evolved over time in order to become the city that it is today Naperville. |
